Here's the very weird argument some publishers have:

"Oh, if we switch from ad revenue to direct subscription support, we'll make tons less money!"

Translation:

"Most people value our content at $0. If we try to charge for our content, those people won't pay up!"

My Idea:

Hey publishers, how about you stop posting garbage and instead create content people value so highly they're willing to pay for it?

Related: I can guarantee you I've provided much higher revenue to a number of publishers I support through subscriptions than through taking action via ads. The number of times I've *ever* bought a product after hearing a sponsor read or seeing a web banner or video ad I could probably count on one hand.
