Shoutout to newcomers to OpenWeb.social and — if you look at only the Local Timeline, there probably won't be much to look at. But if you look at the Public Timeline, you'll see posts coming in from people followed from this instance and a few other related bits that get pulled in. Hopefully something there is of interest.

You can also do hashtag searches, like for example, to help you find people to follow.

Enjoy!

@cwebber Quick question — I have a static website at jaredwhite.com. My custom Rails CMS is on a subdomain. But I'm wondering if I could somehow let people follow jared@jaredwhite.com and get posts via ActivityPub even though the actual server is on a subdomain of jaredwhite.com. Is there a way for a naked domain site to "delegate" AP to a subdomain?

I really think online news sites should get rid of the ‘comments’ section of their online articles - relatively unmoderated the trolls and radicals are given a mouthpiece for their vitriol. Return to the days of ‘Letters to the Editor” please.

I bought a pair of pineapple-print boxers, and now all I can think of is:

“Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh –

Who lives in a pineapple under the sea?

Spo…”

📺 Episode 10 of Essential Life

I did something totally stupid…I accidentally erased my iMac hard drive which had a full edit of this video. Luckily I recovered the raw footage, so this is my SECOND attempt at putting a vlog episode together. I visited Bothell, WA — the place my mom wrote a piece of Celtic music for entitled “The Woods of Bothell” — as well as the way cool Gasworks Park in Seattle. Stay tuned for Part II of my road trip, coming very soon!

I wrote a thing about why I believe the best and most useful decentralized applications are going to be the ones that utilize multiple protocols. I imagine a world where ActivityPub, Dat, and Secure ScuttleButt are all seen as tools in a toolbox rather than as ecosystems, and what kind of amazing software we could build with them outside of the central/corporate paradigm.

there is something deeply silly

you'll read them

So much of internet discourse ends up:

* I believe in Position A! You people are wrong!
* I believe in Position B! You people are wrong!
* Well, I believe in the One True Position, which of course is C. You people are both wrong!

I wish more people would instead speak up and say:

* I appreciate interesting observations from people who believe Positions A, B, C, and beyond. Let's celebrate this conversation and sharing of ideas!

(And if you disagree with me, you are, of course, WRONG! 🤣)
