Giving a talk at a local Portland meetup tonight about what's new in Rails 6. Wish me luck!

Very soothing quality of light outside in Portland today

Procrastination is a real problem we need to talk about... later.

First day of Fall and it's mostly cloudy weather in Portland, but I'm diggin' it. One of the interesting aspects of living in the Pacific Northwest after being a California boy is discovering I actually prefer cooler weather on average. 65 degrees with a hint of sun is perfectly nice in my book.

Heads up fellow OpenWeb.social-ites — getting an influx of spam accounts coming in from pawoo.net. So far it looks like their server is shutting the accounts down quickly, but if this ends up turning into a major headache, I may have to de-federate with pawoo. We'll see how it goes…

You know how there's a "rule of the internet" that: "if you can imagine it, there's porn of it"

Is there a similar rule like "anything dystopian you can imagine, a techbro somewhere is non-ironically trying to make into reality"? Because

I can't believe I captured this image. It looks like something straight out of a travel brochure.

Really, the credit goes to Silver Falls State Park though—one of the most beautiful places I've visited yet in Oregon. I can't wait to go back in the spring when the volume of water going over the falls will no doubt be much greater!

Have you heard of the band 1023MB? They haven't got a gig yet.

…testing a federation thingie…move right along…

(Unless you want to guess what game this is from 😏)

So a female crawdad—is it OK to call it a crawmom?

All right, I’ll admit the level of humor in that joke was pretty shrimpy.

I don't know what it is about rearranging furniture in a room that can bring a great sense of calm and inspiration, but…yeah.

Sitting in my easy chair right now that's in a whole new corner of the room, and I am one happy dude. ☺️

I wrote about my burgeoning addiction to climbing mountains and how bored I am at the gym…plus lots of cool photos of skyscrapers and waterfalls (not at the same time).

Sub if you like, toot if you don't. (Just kidding. My fragile ego couldn't take it…)

Not even trypophobia could keep me from discussing what’s new with iPhone 11, Watch Series 5, and the rest of Apple’s September extravaganza. Also my thoughts on the landmark California ruling which reclassifies Uber drivers (and other “gig economy” workers) as employees:

I made this illustration for Star Wars: Age of Rebellion by Fantasy Flight Games.
I've been waiting quite a while for this to be released, as this was one of the favourite works I've made for Star Wars.
Because, you know, Han and Chewie😀

Some context for my blog silence lately and why I'm back in Iceland for a couple of weeks.

All the places a car can't go make the Pearl District a joy to walk. I'm always on the lookout for those hidden paths and courtyards when out for a stroll.
